So why do we still have mat work at the studio?

So why do we still have mat work at the studio?

Awareness of the Pilates method has grown in recent years – and if you're here, it means you've fallen in love with Pilates too.

Pilates lengthens the muscles, improves everyday performance and increases the body's range of motion.

Anyone who trains at our studio knows our method splits the work between reformers and chairs. But we didn't give up on the mat!

Every class starts with 10 minutes of mat Pilates – and you'll soon see why.

So why do we still have mat work at the studio?

Mat Pilates has so many benefits – and at the same time plenty of stigmas, like:

"Mat Pilates is easy"

"It doesn't tone"

"Mat Pilates isn't for young people"

And many more…

It's time to bust the stigmas and tell you the truth:

1. Pilates began by rehabilitating injured people using a hospital bed – which is how the Pilates reformer was born, to help and support a person during the exercise.

In mat Pilates there's no support from any apparatus. The whole body works all the time, which makes it hard and intense.

So why do we still have mat work at the studio?

2. Pilates is a workout in every sense – not only does it tone us, it also strengthens and lengthens the muscles correctly, in a way that suits a wide range of people.

So why do we still have mat work at the studio?

3. If you said Pilates is easy, you probably weren't working slowly and precisely.

Slow, focused work is exactly what makes Pilates more challenging.

There's a reason most dancers and acrobats do Pilates 😉

So why do we still have mat work at the studio?

I hope I've managed to clear up some of the stigmas and made you fall in love with mat Pilates 💪🏻

We recently added mat Pilates classes to our schedule, with no apparatus at all.

The classes are designed to introduce you to what makes mat Pilates unique compared with the apparatus – challenging, dynamic workouts with flowing transitions between exercises.

Mat Pilates classes are now open in our app – you're welcome to sign up!

Tell us after class whether it really was easy 😂😉
