It's all about BALANCE

It's all about BALANCE

In many Pilates classes we hear about balance and the ability to hold a stable position without disturbance.

But we all know balance isn't only physical – it's emotional and mental too, and it's important to keep that kind of balance in different areas of our lives.

In today's fast-paced world, finding balance matters more than ever. We often juggle many responsibilities and deal with stress, which leads to physical tension and emotional turmoil. Yoga and Pilates promote exactly this: balance in body and mind alike.

It's all about BALANCE

Posture and balance

Physically, yoga and Pilates are known for improving posture and balance. Through a series of controlled movements and poses, they strengthen the core, improve flexibility and increase body awareness. This leads to better balance and posture and reduces the risk of injury and chronic pain. Regular practice and good posture prevent back pain and improve balance.

Mental and emotional balance

Beyond the physical benefits, yoga and Pilates also promote emotional balance and stress relief, a clear mind and connection with ourselves – all part of a balanced life. Both practices emphasise mindfulness and deep breathing, which can calm the mind and reduce anxiety. By focusing on the present moment, we can develop an inner sense of balance.

So what can we do to keep good physical posture?

  • Pay attention to your posture: when sitting, standing or walking, keep your back straight and your shoulders open.

  • Strengthen your core: strong core muscles contribute to the body's stability. You can strengthen them with many exercises, such as the plank, the hundred and more.

  • Use an ergonomic chair: at the office and at home, use an ergonomic chair that supports your lower back.

  • Take breaks: take short breaks throughout the day to move your body, stretch your muscles and prevent stiffness.

  • Notice where your phone is: try to hold your phone away from your body, in a position that stops your neck from collapsing and your head from dropping down.

And what can we do to keep our mental and emotional balance?

  • Make time for yourself: it's important to find time to relax and recharge. Schedule quality time with yourself and do things that make you happy.

  • Exercise: physical activity releases endorphins, which encourage feelings of happiness and calm. When you book a class you're not only supporting a healthy lifestyle – you're making time for yourself, giving yourself a moment of peace and encouraging the release of feel-good hormones.

  • Meditate: meditation helps reduce stress and improve concentration.

  • Be aware of your thoughts and feelings: notice the thoughts and feelings that pass through you, and try to filter out the negative ones.

  • Seek professional help: it's always good to reach out for professional help. Talking to an objective person can show things differently from how they appear in our own head.

In Pilates and yoga classes we learn to be balanced, to combine the work of body and mind, and to find the strength and willingness to keep both feet on the ground – even when one of them is in the air.
